The New York Yankees have DFA’d Starting Pitcher Andrew Heaney prior to the American League Wild Card Game tonight against the Boston Red Sox. Heaney was acquired via trade from the Los Angeles Angels mid-season and posted a 7.32 ERA through 35.2 innings pitched from a total of 12-games (5 started / 7 relief.) Heaney was acquired as a starting pitcher, but due to poor performance he was sent to the bullpen to come in via relief. Overall Heaney had a 2-2 record with New York and posted an 8-9 record along with a 5.83 ERA through 129.2 innings pitched.
Along with Heaney the Yankees also DFA’d Brody Koerner who posted a 3.00 ERA in just 3 IPs between 2 games, he has been optioned to Triple-AAA as he loses his 40-man roster spot. Koerner posted a respectable 3.39 ERA through 26 games (15 started) and a total of 77.0 IP, collecting 64 K’s and went 3-4 in the win-loss column.
