When you think of the sport teams that New York has to offer it is likely that soccer does not cross your mind for the top big apple teams, at least fan wise. New York is home to two MLS teams, the New York Red Bulls and NYCFC. Overall the Red Bulls own New York as they are the longer standing team as NYCFC has only been a team for less than a decade and is still without a 'true stadium' as they call Yankee Stadium (home of MLB's New York Yankees) their tempory home.
Soccer fans in New York though have embraced both teams heavily and frankly it is beautiful to see. The Red Bull v NYCFC rivalry is not the most heard of NY sport rivalry, but it is without a doubt one of the biggest. Both teams are set to play against each other three more times in 2021 with matches on September 22nd and 25th along with a match on October 17th.
So far in 2021 it has been clear that NYCFC is the MLS team of the big apple as they sit in the top five standings for the MLS Eastern Conference as the Bulls' sit outside the top eight with a losing record.
