The New York Rangers may be reuniting with former defenseman Ryan McDonagh, who played with the team from 2010-2018. Now 36-years-old, McDonagh is coming off of a season in which he appeared in all 82 regular season games for Tampa Bay.
In an average of 20:22 minutes, McDonagh recorded 4 goals and 27 assists to total 31 points last season.
The former Rangers captain would be able to help stabilize the Rangers’ line whilst bringing a strong and respected veteran presence to the locker room. Set to earn $6.75M this upcoming season does make trading for McDonagh a little more difficult due to New York’s limited cap space.
New York would also be trading for what could possibly be a one-year rental as his contract is set to expire at the end of the 2025/26 season, but if the Rangers just want a short-term option then this is a trade Chris Drury should at least inquire about.
