Last week it was made official that the Danbury Hat Tricks had appointed AJ Galante as General Manager for the 2025/26 season. Galante has previously served as Senior Advisor to the GM during the 2024/25 season for the Hat Tricks.
AJ Galante, the teenager who was behind the mob-tied Danbury Trashers, steps back into the rink with his biggest role in two decades. Now 38-years-old, Galante, who pushed the bad boy image of the Trashers, told the New York Post that he believes there’s still a place in the game for toughness.

In 2021, the story-turned-documentary of how Galante’s father, Jimmy, made his son GM of the Danbury Trashers, which were named after the family’s garbage handling business. The Netflix documentary, Untold: Crimes and Penalties, recounts how Trasher players were giving “no-show jobs” and under-the-table money – which would spark an FBI investigation.
In June of 2008, Galante Sr., admitted to charges of racketeering, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and defrauding the IRS. He was also forced to forfeit an estimated worth of more than a combined $100 million from 25 garbage-related businesses.
The younger Galante remained active in the sports scene after the folding of the Danbury Trashers. Galante now runs a Danbury boxing gym and has helped to develop a UFC-style hockey fight series called Ice Wars.
The Hat Tricks are an entry-level hockey team in Connecticut, who are members of the Federal Prospects Hockey League. Danbury will open their season on October 10th.
