West Haven vs Notre Dame Revisited

The West Haven vs Notre Dame rivalry has to be one of the biggest rivalries in the state of Connecticut as you can always count on a packed house with a sold out crowd rooting for their favorite team. The West Haven - Notre Dame rivalry dates back to the 50s and is very, very popular among high school football fans but not as much as the West Haven vs Hillhouse rivalry. West Haven went up against its city rivals near the end of the 2019/20 season for the Soderman Bowl. West Haven High came in beating the team in the last four previous accouters.

The game was neck-to-neck all game long but when the final buzzer sounded Notre Dame was leading as they would win for the first time in over three years vs the Blue Devils with a score of 41-35. Even though the Blue Devils lost they still lead Notre Dame in the overall rivalry standings with a 7-6-0 record against them since 2004 (JV 0-2-0, Freshman 0-4-0.) Even though it was a disappointing loss for the team they left holding their heads high as they have many good drives against the team and their Quarterback was on point, overall the Blue Devils had a very rough season with injuries all around, there is no doubt that the Blue Devils would have won if it weren't for injuries.

The winning touchdown came for Notre Dame with just 48 seconds left of play of the 4th quarter when Notre Dame’s Quarterback Jackson Zalinsky (12-21 passing 288yds) hit Aiden Stankiewicz from 32 yards out. West Haven would get the ball back but Quarterback Andre Rentas (5-17 passing 55yds 147rush) threw an interception with 19 seconds left in the game to seal the Blue Devils fate as they would lose. This was one of the best games defensive wise as at half time it was 14-14 tie.
