Former Blue Devil Gambardella Nominated For America East Man of the Year

West Haven alumni Gianni Gambardella has been nominated for America East Man of the Year. The former Blue Devil spent all four years of high school in West Haven before graduating in 2022 and going to Division I Maine. Now in his senior season as a Black Bear, Gambardella is up for another award.

Since going to UMaine, Gambardella was a 2023 Freshman All-American and 2023 America East Tournament MVP. The Westie has also notched three consecutive All-Conference pitcher honors from 2023-25.
Gambardella, 22, has posted a 5.22 ERA in 13 games, which include 12 starts for the Black Bears this season. The righty has a win-loss record of 5-4 and 32 strikeouts across a career-high 65.2 innings pitched. Overall, in 52 collegiate games, Gambardella has a 5.02 ERA and carries a 1.437 WHIP with 170 strikeouts in 236.2 innings.
The award is determined by the academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership of senior or graduate student-athletes. There are 9 nominees for Man of the Year with Gambardella being one of the nine. While off the diamond, Gambardella has maintained a 3.7 GPA while Majoring in Finance. Gambardella also has volunteered with little leagues and food drives.
The finalists for America East Man of the Year will be announced on May 26th, narrowing the field down to three, with the winner being announced on June 2nd.
