The West Haven Blue Devils faced The Notre Dame-Fairfield Lancers last night for a regular season matchup. The first game back from a long winter break for West Haven featured intense hockey, in what would end up being the closest game the Blue would play so far this season.
West Haven would play Junior goalie Javed Ullah, who came in with a save percentage just below .900%. Ullah would play shutout hockey through two, before allowing a goal in the third.
West Haven would tie things up with two seconds left to send the game into overtime. The Blue Devils would lose OT battle and with that the game, 2-1.
The Blue Devils are now placed at 0-5 (0-2 H | 0-3 A).
This game was bigger than hockey and for NDF’s Colby LaSalle, it was a game that would help his family. West Haven and NDF raised over $3,000 for Project Purple, a nonprofit organization that has funds to pancreatic cancer. The funds were raised by ticket sales, t-shirts and 50-50 raffles to help LaSalle’s grandmother, who is currently fighting cancer.
