The climb to Division I football is a tough one. Winning at the Division I level is a whole other story and fight that many programs fail at. For New Haven, they can now call themselves DI winners.
Week 3 featured another road game for the Chargers, who were coming off of a blowout loss that was part of an 0-2 start. New Haven went to upstate New York to face Albany on September 13th, with both teams entering with hopes of their first win of 2025.
The Chargers got out front quickly with a 10-point first quarter and a multi-touchdown second. The second-half would feature shutout ball by Albany who accounted for 10 points in what would eventually be a 24-17 New Haven win.
UNH quarterback AJ Duffy had control of the end zone with three passing touchdowns. Overall though, Duffy threw for just 180 yards off of 23 completions. Albany QB Jack Shields had quite a game with a Jameis Winston like stat line of 31/53 passing with 396 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.
The Chargers defense was brutal to Shields and the Albany offense. Two interceptions and sacks, along with one forced fumble.
New Haven is now 1-2, and is set to face Saginaw Valley State for what is the Chargers first home game of the season on September 20th, with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff time. SVS is a Division II team based out of Michigan. Saginaw comes into New Haven 1-2 to begin their season, as both teams seek to get to .500%.
