With one week left of the 2025 UFL season, expansion rumors are fully ignited.

Per sources, the league is unhappy with fan turnouts in Birmingham and Houston as Memphis is being viewed as being on its “own island” due to its ties to Fed-Ex owner Fred Smith.
The UFL has recently filed for 4 new trademarks, with one that would send the league back to the New york/New Jersey area.
The league has filed for trademarks for the Oakland Invaders, Philadelphia Stars, Tampa Bay Bandits and the New Jersey Generals. It is also speculated that Seattle and Columbus are cities that are still in play for expansion.
According to Mike Mitchell, if four new teams are added to the UFL in 2026, the odds are that the Roughnecks and Showboats will be relocated.
Adding a New York area team would be absolutely amazing for ratings. When the Generals were part of the USFL reboot just several years ago, the franchise actually never had a chance to play in New Jersey, as they instead played in hub stadiums.
You would have to go back to the 2020 XFL season with the New York Guardians as to when a pro football team (non-NFL related) played in the New York area. The Guardians played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The Guardians attracted an average of 14,923 fans per game, although the team only had a chance to play two home games before the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the season.
