Since being drafted as a center out of Sweden, the towering 6-foot-7 Adam Edstrom has manned the wing since joining the Rangers organization.

Saturday night had that all change when New York was in Minnesota, with the Rangers switching up their lines and putting Edstrom in the middle for the first time in the NHL. The 25-year-old centered the fourth line for New York in what was a Rangers 4-2 win over the Wild.
Rangers coach Mike Sullivan believed that it was Edstrom’s first time playing the position since his under-20 junior season in Sweden.
“Obviously, if you get a guy that’s 6-7 that has the capacity to play the position, especially in a fourth-line role, he can certainly be hard to play against with his size, his mobility, his reach,” said Sullivan, who added that the team will continue to explore it with him.
Edstrom won one of four total faceoffs against the Wild over 7:33 of ice time. Edstrom is currently in his third year with the Rangers in the NHL, and is nearing his 100th game played. Overall, in 92 games, Edstrom is +1 on the ice and has posted 16 points with 10 being from goals.
