Rangers hockey granted the Canadiens their 44th win on Tuesday as New York drops to 31-36-9. With six-games left of the 2025/26 season, all hope for the Rangers has been long gone for the last-place team in the Metropolitan.

The Rangers’ 71 points has them 9 points-out from their closest division competitor in the New Jersey Devils.

Despite the lack-of home offense, the Rangers rank 23rd-out-of-32 in goals-for, with 214, but a defense allowing 235 goals has ranked New York inside the top-10. We have seen so many close games dropped by New York, but at the same time there has just been about the same exact amount blowout shutout losses.

A poor defense, backed up with an even worse defense has New York deserving of last place. It is sad looking back just several years ago and seeing that New York was a true championship contender. Thye had a window and it just didn't close, it slammed shut.
