Official: Zach Wilson Will Be Benched In 2023

Updated: May 18, 2023

Yesterday New York Jets’ Head Coach Robert Saleh made an announcement that we already knew: Zach Wilson will be benched to start the season.

The former second overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft will be the QB2 in 2023, playing behind whoever the jets’ acquire for the first-string spot. Wilson was benched on two separate occasions last season. Overall Wilson went 5-4 with a 54.5 cmp%, throwing 6 touchdowns to 7 interceptions.

Wilson being QB2 will definitely be interesting as he will be the ‘next man up’ if an injury occurs. The Jets have made it known that they are all in on trading for Aaron Rodgers, who would be the QB1 for New York. Wilson’s future is not necessary over in the NFL or with New York, but it will take a lot of work and development to become the set QB1 again.
