New York Rangers Goal Tending Problems

Updated: May 17, 2023

The New York Rangers have a very serious issue for the start of the 2019 - 2020 NHL season and that is goal tending. The Rangers are currently 8-8-2 with 18pts, that's decent but everybody thought they would take off this season especially with the addition of Right Wing Kappo Kakko but, one player especially a rookie will not take a below .500wp% to the playoffs ( 2018 Rangers 34-39-9 77pts. ) Now don't get me wrong Kakko is a good player but that's not this is about. The Rangers have two goalies, all-star Henrik Lundqvist and 5 year veteran Alexander Georgiyevich.

Georgiyevich acts like he has no clue what's going on sometiems with a 4-4 w/l record, Lundqvist is out of his prime, he's been for a while as he went 18-23-0 in 2018. The Rangers have Igor Shesterkin who is tearing it up in the AHL playing for the Hartford Wolf Pack but does he have what it takes to move up? Yes, its still very in what is a very long season but of the Rangers want to go anywhere they have to either bring up Shesterkin, Let go of Georgiyvich or send him down, or look at the trade block. The NHL Trade Deadline is on Febuary 24th, 2020 so they have time but do you really want to wait that long?
