Disgraced New York Jets Head Coach Back In NFL After 6 Year Hiatus

Adam Gase is back in the NFL.

Those are words I never thought would be spoken or written after the firing in 2020. In fact Gase’s return for the 2026/27 season marks the first time he is back in professional football on any level since 2020.

Gase was hired earlier this offseason in February by the Los Angeles Chargers with his official role being ‘Passing Game Specialist’. This is the same ‘Passing Game Specialist’ that had Sam Darnold toss 48 passes on December 1st, 2019, against the 0-11 Bengals during heavy rains (New York only ended up scoring 6 points, losing 22-6).

Overall as head coach of the New York Jets, Adam Gase would win 9 games and post a 9-23 record from 2019-2020. 7 of those 9 wins came in Gase’s first season in 2019, where the Jets finished 7-9.

Congratulations though to Adam Gase for getting an NFL paycheck again. A six-year hiatus in professional football that was recently marked by a drug use allegation post-hiring.

Former New York Jets’ running back Le’Veon Bell claimed in an April 2026 podcast that Gase used cocaine in his office before practices, which was allegedly  witnessed by Bell himself. There were no responses to that allegation, nor did an announced league investigation take place.

Gase heads into the 2026/27 season with Justin Herbert under center, coming off of a 3,727 passing yard season with 26 touchdowns.
