George Lombard Jr, Ben Rice Combine For 2,100th Home Run In Yankee Stadium History

Since 2009 Opening Day there have been 2,101 home runs hit at Yankee Stadium across 1,382 games. New York owns a 845-537 regular season record at home in total, translating to a .611 winning percentage across nearly two decades.

In the Yankees-Braves series, the New York offense came alive and hit home runs 2,099 and 2,100 in the stadium. Both of the home runs came on Saturday, August 8th, by George Lombard Jr., and Ben Rice.

Lombard, just 21-years-old, is already showcasing why he belongs in the bigs. The rookie blasted his second career longshot, the 2099th in the stadium’s history, in the 7th inning off of Victor Mederos to deep right. Shortly after in the 8th inning, Ben Rice would hit his own solo shot to deep center off of Danny Young, for the 2,100th home run in Yankee Stadium history. Rice's home run measured an estimated 431-feet, one of the longest hit by a Yankee this season.

Both Lombard Jr’s and Ben Rice’s home runs had the same base situation: 0 on, 0 out. Two solo shots to unknowingly help create a new milestone in Bronx baseball history.

Atlanta Braves’ Matt Olson would keep the ball rolling (literally), hitting a shot himself against New York the next day in the 7th inning for the 2,101st in Yankee Stadium history.
