The New York Rangers have acquired goaltender Joonas Korpisalo in a rare trade with the Boston Bruins. New York is sending Kalle Vaisanen and a 2028 4th round pick to Boston for the veteran netminder.

Originally drafted 62nd overall in the 2012 NHL Draft by the Blue Jackets, Korpisalo has spent the past two seasons with Boston. The 2024/26 season showcased 28 games started for the Fin, and 31 total games played. Korpisalo notched an .894 sv%, his best since the 2022/23 season, while also getting a shutout to his name. He would lead Boston to a 14-9-6 record in the games he started.
This move for New York comes after Jonathan Quick announced his retirement, as the Rangers move on from Quick and get their new backup fairly quickly into the offseason.
Kalle Vaisanen being shipped off to the Bruins has New York lose a Fin for a Fin, but overall a low-value AHL’er as well. In 51 games for the Wolfpack in 2025/26, the winger posted 4 total points, with 3 coming off of goals. Vaisanen was drafted by New York 106th overall in 2021.
