Mike White made his NFL starting debut on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals after being in the NFL for four years for the same team that cut him four times just a season ago, the New York Jets. Mike White was in replacing the injured Zach Wilson who is out 2-4 weeks with a PCL sprain, White also subbed in mid game in week 7 against the New England Patriots when Wilson went down with the PCL injury.
In the Patriots game we saw Mike White throw for over 200 yards with a pair of touchdowns despite the Jets 54-13 blowout loss. Going into week 8 expectations were high but unclear for White who was to start against one of the best defenses in the league. Mike White went and threw for over 400 yards with 37 completions and 3 touchdowns as the New York Jets pull off one of the biggest upsets in NFL history with a 34-31 victory over the Bengals.
Now where do I start, Mike White broke so many team and NFL records in his STARTING DEBUT and now his game jersey is on display in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Mike White is the first Jet to throw for 400+ yards in a game for the first time in 20ish years and he is the first ever QB to throw for 37 passing completions in his starting debut (37-45) along with those 405 passing yards being ranked second all time behind Cam Newton’s 422 yards. White has also been named AFC Offensive Player of The Week by the NFL for his historic performance and the hype is so big and real that someone bet $125,000 that Mike White will throw for 400+ yards again against the 3-5 Indianapolis Colts for a Thursday night football affair.
The New York Jets sit 2-5 coming into the Colts week 9 game as they look to start a winning streak, so far this season the Jets have beaten the Titans and the Bengals to get their two wins. If Mike White has another great game and throws for 300+ yards then the Jets could very well have a quarterback controversy when Zach Wilson comes back.
