Mets Struggles Highlight Miserable Start To August

Being 2-8 in their last 10 games played and 1-5 in the month of August, has given the New York Mets a dark cloud over Citi Field. Almost no-hit by Cleveland was the cherry topping to what has been the worst stretch we have seen from the Mets this season.
The Mets offense is lethargic on a good day as of late, with a team combined BA of .212 in their last 6 games with a .630 OPS and 46 strikeouts in 203 at-bats. Along with a faltering offensive, there is an unsteady pitching line that has a 5.30 ERA in New York’s last 56 innings (last 6 games).
Nothing is clicking for the Mets, who sit at 63-52 at -2.5 games back on Philadelphia.
Juan Soto has been below average in what is his first season of a nearly $1 billion dollar contract. Injuries have plagued the starting rotation and bullpen. Lack of in-game transformation has even had manager Carlos Mendoza question the team’s ability to make those critical adjustments.
The team’s struggles, which can be traded all the way back to June, have eroded any goodwill and momentum that the team was able to accumulate during the first-half of the season. For about the last 48-games or so, the Mets have looked like a team that is over-payed and underwhelmed.
The Mets will still likely make the playoffs this season, but based how this team has handled game-time problems it looks more and more likely they will have a very forgettable wild card exit.
