“No sh*t Sherlock. I just won a championship. You’d think it was pretty easy. Unless you guys (reporters) think I have something else to prove,” is what a very frustrated Karl-Anthony Towns had to say when asked if he thinks he should be rewarded with a higher paying contract. A following question was asked if an extension deal would be inked before June, Towns had a short reply saying, “It don’t look good.”

The Knicks and Towns have been in different zip codes when negotiating since he became eligible for an extension in August. Towns is eligible for a four-year, $277 million extension and publicly stated his willingness to accept a discount, which would allow a better work-around for the team to be and stay competitive. New York has offered a lower price, but the discount tag is a bit too cheap for KAT to accept. The Knicks have reportedly offered a $200 million contract across the four-year span, which is $77 million (or 27.8% less) than his max.

“Simply put, I want to do something to keep the team together and can work with the Knicks and also values me,” Towns said Monday before the preseason opener against Philly. “And none of those things are close to happening,” said the frustrated KAT that clearly feels disrespected.

The Knicks are trying to remain under the second apron, while taking into account the upcoming extension for Finals MVP Jalen Brunson – who is eligible next year.
