Juan Soto is expected to miss significant time with a Grade 2 left calf strain, per Mets interim manager Andy Green. Soto was placed on the 10-day IL after exiting the third inning of the Mets v. Dodgers game last Friday.

Green explained the injury is more severe than the right calf strain that Soto suffered earlier this season in April. Overall, Soto was playing with consistent discomfort over the course of a week, despite the Mets last-place standing, before finally exiting mid-game.
To try to combat a possible IL stint, the Mets placed Soto in the DH role in four of his last six games post All-Star break.
Losing Soto for any amount of time is a massive loss for the Mets, but with the team 44-62 and nearly 20-games out of first place Atlanta in the NL East, there isn’t really any much more to lose. New York is just two games better than the worst NL team (Colorado Rockies), as they are essentially out of NL Wild Card contention being 11 games back on the final slot.
The Mets lost 12-straight games when Soto was on the injury list in April, in what has been an overall disaster season. At this point with nothing left to play for other than individual stat lines, you cannot help but wonder if the Mets will just sideline Soto for the rest of 2026 to avoid any further injuries that could impact 2027.
