Jose Siri Marks His Mets IL Return As The Holder Of An Unfortunate Record

Jose Siri’s return last night in what was a losing effort by the Mets showed to be an over beneficial game for the New York outfielder. Being on the Injured list since April 17th after fracturing his tibia on April 9th, only saw Siri appear in 10 games before his several month IL stint.

When Siri went on the IL he was the holder of one of the worst New York Mets records.

Siri had posted a .050 batting average (1-for-20) in those 10 games, making him the most recent player in Mets history with the lowest batting average for a player with at least one hit with the team. Cameron Maybin is the current holder of that record with a .036 average (1-for-28) that he posted in this final season.

Jose Siri got a hit in last night’s loss against the NL East leading Phillies, upping his batting average to .083 after a 1-for-4 night. Overall, Siri is still the most recent with the lowest batting average, but now since he will be getting consistent playing time Siri will most likely end the season in the high .100’s or low .200’s.
