From the creation of the ‘forgotten’ players column in 2022, we have only done a handful of forgotten New York Giants. I was on Pro-Football Reference earlier today looking at Giant franchise passer stats and a name stood out to me: David Carr.

David Carr is the older brother of Derek Carr. The elder Carr had two stints with the Big Blue New York Giants with the first being from 2007-2008 and then finishing his career with the Giants, being on the team in 2011-2012.

Carr saw limited time under center throughout his Giants career, but his first stint saw the most action. Although David Carr didn’t start a game, he did appear in nine total games in relief. He was originally brought in on a one-year deal, but his 2 touchdowns in 9 completions was enough to earn him another one-year contract.

Carr was the primary backup behind Eli Manning, as the Giants released Jared Lorenzen after originally signing Carr in ‘08. Carr’s first stint saw him go 30-for-45 passing, with 340 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The former 1st overall pick would then spend time in the backup role for the 49ers in 2010, before landing back in New Jersey. Carr signed with the Giants in free agency in 2011, but did not see the playing field.

The Giants winning the Super Bowl in 2011 gave Carr his first and only ring. Carr re-signed with the Giants in March of 2012, and would appear in two games, going 2-for-3 passing.

2012 would mark the final year that Carr would play in the NFL. He would later be named as one of the top-10 biggest draft busts by Fox Sports.

Carr’s Giants tenure would see him appear in 11 games, going 32-for-48 passing (66.7%) with 359 yards and 3 TDs.
