The Jets made more additions on Monday than they had wins all throughout the 2025/26 season. The team made six additions on the defensive side of the ball with five signings and a trade. Last season marked a historic low for the Jets, who went the entire season without an interception and only had four total defensive turnovers.
Despite yesterday being a day of gains, it was also a loss with Quincy Williams, Nick Folk, John Simpson and Alijah Vera-Tucker all finding new homes. None of these departures came as a surprise besides the exception of Folk, but at-best the Jets front office seemed lukewarm on keeping these players to begin with.
Monday began with a trade for Miami Dolphins safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and would agree to a three-year, $40M contract.
Demario Davis
New York would add Demario Davis on a two-year, $22M contract with some $15 million guaranteed. Coach Aaron Glenn once called David “one of the best leaders I’ve ever been around.,” Glenn was around Davis for three seasons in New Orleans as they now reunite. Overall, this is Demario Davis’ third stint with the Jets, who drafted him back in 2012. Davis, 37, is a great run stopper, but overall saw his pass-coverage metrics decline last season.
David Onyemata
The Jets would sign a 6-foot-4, 310 pound beast of David Onyemata for DT. This was a great addition as Onyemata joins also newly-acquired T’Vondre Sweat to help the team’s defense rebound after placing 29th in run defense last season. Onyemata’s run stop win rate was also a career high last year in the 17 starts for Atlanta. This is also another player that Aaron Glenn knows, as they overlapped for five years in New Orleans.
Joseph Ossai
With the Jets recording the second-fewest sacks last season (26) and trading away Jermaine Johnson, they needed to get edge-rushing help. The signing of Joseph Ossai on a three-year, $34.5M deal is large with over $22 million guaranteed on a player who was modest with sack totals last season. Ossai is 25 and the Jets likely see him as an ascending player, as he recorded career highs last season in both QB pressure percentage and pass rush win rate.
Kingsley Enagbare
The addition of Kingsley Enagbare on a simple one-year, $10 million dollar deal will see him as a borderline starter who in reality is a high-end backup player. This is a safe signing acquiring a player for depth who can have a potential upside.
Dane Belton
New York doubled down on one of their weakest 2025 positions in safety, adding Dane Belton to the squad on a one-year deal that can be worth up to $6 million. The 25-year-old can compete for the second safety job or be a top backup. Overall, Belton is a big threat in the secondary, ranking fourth among 56 safeties (min. 500 snaps) on 95% tackling efficiency.
