A short, quick but very painful firesale by the New York Jets prior to yesterday’s trade deadline saw two of the biggest faces on defense get new teams. Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams to pick up three first round picks and one second round selection.

Gardner, who has been a lockdown CB1 since entering the league, signed a four-year, $120.4 million dollar contract which included a $13.8 million signing bonus over the most recent offseason. A player in New York’s long-term future had all plans altered following a Jet 1-7 record as he is now part of a 7-2 Colts team.

Williams is just one of two defensive lineman since 2022 with an 85+ pass rush grade and a 85+ run defense grade. The 27-year-old has been one of the most consistent players for New York as now the three-time Pro Bowler will give the Cowboys line much needed strength.

Although a trade of this magnitude alters a locker room, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn stated that “No matter what the situation is, we’re going to look to do everything we can to improve our team.”

New York is coming off of their bye week looking for their second-straight win.
