Is Jake Bird's Time With The Yankees Over?

Jake Bird has spent more time in Triple-AAA than the Majors since being a trade deadline acquisition by the Yankees from Colorado in 2025. Overall, since becoming a Yankee, Jake Bird has been statistically one of the worst pitchers in New York’s bullpen.

After Bird’s 5 earned run performance allowed in game one of a double header Sunday against the Dodgers, Bird was sent once again to the minors. In 36 games this season with the Yankees, Bird has a 5.93 ERA across 30.1 innings and a WHIP of 1.549 that has given him a -0.4 pWAR.

After being acquired in 2025 by New York, Bird only pitched in three games across a small sample size of 2 innings to a 27.000 ERA. Before being acquired by New York last season Jake Bird was a career 4.57 ERA pitcher with the Rockies over the course of four years and 230.1 innings. 

When New York traded for Jake Bird many fans saw it as a head scratching move by Brian Cashman, and so far it has been a move that has ultimately bit the Yankees back. New York sent Roc Riggio and Ben Shields to Colorado for Bird, both players of which have struggled in the lower levels of the minors.

After the latest roster move before New York’s second game on Sunday to send Bird back to Triple-AAA, it may likely have marked the last time he will pitch in a Yankees Uniform. More than likely Bird will be released, as it has become abundantly clear that there is simply no future for the relief pitcher in the Bronx.
