West Haven’s Gianni Gambardella made his first career start on Saturday, March 11th. The University of Maine righty had previously clocked in innings via relief for the Black Bears.
Gambardella and UMaine faced the University of Maryland for an NCAA DI regular season matchup. The freshman would go six innings en-route to a no-decision, allowing four earned runs. Gambardella threw a total of 90 pitches and notched two strikeouts, in what was his fourth appearance of the season.
The 6-foot-2 pitcher recorded the most innings (6) and threw the most pitches (90) between both teams that day. Gambardella seemed to go-for and favor soft contact, putting Maryland into 10 groundouts. Another note was how excellent his ball control was, not walking a single batter in the 27 he faced.
