Forgotten Knicks: Allonzo Trier

The New York Knicks have gone through a numerous amount of players during their dark years since 2014. I remember when I started the New York Sports Show back in 2018 and the Knicks were absolutely horrible, not even able to win 20 games in a season and going on massive losing streaks.

One of the players from the 2018-19 Knicks squad is Allonzo Trier. Despite playing in 88 games as a Knick over two seasons, he is genuinely forgotten in Knicks history.
Allonzo Trier went undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft out of Arizona. Trier signed a two-way contract with the Knicks on July 3rd, 2018, and would later make his NBA debut on October 17th. Trier went 5-for-9 shooting to record 15 points, along with four rebounds and two blocks.
Just over a month later on November 23rd, Trier scored a career-high 25 points in a New York win over New Orleans. Several days later on the 27th, he recorded his first double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
On December 13, Trier signed a standard NBA contract with the Knicks. The signing marked Trier becoming the first two-way player to sign a guaranteed NBA contract within the first two months of the season.
On July 14, 2019, the Knicks picked up Trier’s option after a double-digit scoring rookie season. The organization would then waive shooting guard in June of 2020, after a reccision of a sophomore season that featured his minutes-per-game nearly cut in half.
In two seasons with the Knicks, Allonzo Trier averaged 19 minutes on the court for 9.7 PPG, 1.7 AST and 2.6 TRB. A FG% of .454% and a 3pt% of .384% on his career would mark him as a below-average shooter.
After being waived by the Knicks, Trier would bounce around the G-League before being out of the pro basketball scene entirely.
