On Saturday we will see West Haven Co-op take on an out of state team for a regular season game. The opposition is sat 239-miles away, just over a 4-hour drive and they are making the drive down to Connecticut to face the Blue Devils.
The team hails from St. Dominic Regional, located in Auburn, Maine. The mascot for St. Dominic’s is the Saints, we will see a Blue Devils vs Saints matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints are 6-7-1 through 14-games played with 19 points. They are 6th place in the Maine Class A high school hockey standings (14 total teams). The team has a -4 goal differential, outscored 45-49, overall they are 4th in the league for goals scored. The Saints are under starting goalie Jayden Lynn, who has appeared in 12-games. Lynn has a .898sv% (289/322), 2.78 GAA. The junior has one shutout so far this season (according to mainehshockey).
The Blue Devils are 1-10, they need to win their final nine games straight to finish the regular season at .500%. In the first year of co-op hockey, West Haven ranks 12th in the CIAC DI hockey standings (out of 14 teams). The team is 0-6 so far this season vs D1 teams, St. Dominic’s is considered DI (according to CIAC). The Blue Devils have used two out of their three goalies so far this season: Kiryl Astravukh (Sr.) and Javed Ullah (Jr.). Ullah has appeared in six games this season as Kiryl has been in seven. As of late the two have been on a rotation playing every-other game, making Kiryl projected to start vs the Saints. The Shelton import has a .898sv% on the season (159/177), allowing 2.5 GPG.
The last time West Haven faced an out of state team in the regular season came back in the 2016/17 season where the Blue Devils faced the Scarsdale Raiders (Scarsdale, NY). That game resulted in a 3-1 West Haven win, the team goes into the 2023 weekend looking to improve the WH vs out of state record win column.
