DFA'd Yankee Now Posting 1.000 OPS On New Team

Randal Grichuk was DFA’d by the Yankees at the end of April, and elected free agency to begin the month of May. Overall Grichuk, a former Yankee killer, will go down as likely a forgotten Yankee whose tenure never showed him producing.
An offseason addition, Grichuk was able to make New York’s opening day roster, going on to appear in 16 games for the Yankees. The former Blue Jay never got off offensively and stumbled. Ultimately, Grichuk was slashing .194/.212/.323 at the time of his DFA’ing, but overall was hitting above the .250 mark in his final five games as a Yankee before the roster move was made.
Grichuk signed with the Chicago White Sox on May 4th, in what was a depth move made by the Chi-town team.
Since becoming a White Sox, the 34-year-old has been playing some of the best baseball offensively that we have seen out of him since early 2023. In 18 games with Chicago, Grichuk is slashing .333/.368/.694, being 12-for-36 in his at-bats. The seasoned veteran also has a positive 0.6 WAR with the White Sox, marking a complete 180 of what was a -0.3 WAR as a Yankee. All four of Grichuk’s home runs this season has come as a member of the White Sox, marking his OPS at an elite 1.063.
These improved numbers have elevated his overall batting average to .269 and OPS to .818 in 34 total games played.
