The Bridgeport Islanders announced early Wednesday that the team has signed 27-year-old defenseman Sean Day to an AHL deal. Day has spent the past four seasons as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning organization, playing in two games for the NHL team.
Bridgeport, the New York Islanders AHL affiliate, brings on the former New York Rangers 2016 draftee as a depth signing. Day has 110 points with 90 coming from assists in 277 career AHL games.
Islanders GM Mathieu Darache had Day as a player for several years in Tampa, which likely played a part in the eventual signing to Bridgeport. Although he is another lefty, Day could help the Islanders prospect pool immediately with his leadership as they try to build an identity.
