Thanksgiving is around the corner as we get ready to gather with our family and even some friends to feast and gain another pound or two…or three or four.
No matter what you’re eating this Thanksgiving, there will be talking points and with that it is important to keep the conversations civil and non-controversal. Right? WRONG.
With that said, here are five very risky and controversial talking topics to bring up this turkey day.
The 2025 New York Yankees Collapse
What’s worse: Having a front office that continues to make the same mistakes over and over again or a head coach that doesn’t hold players accountable? If you answered ‘all the above’ then you are 100% correct. The New York Yankees from 2019-through-to present day needs to be studied, but 2025 deserves its down 30-for-30. New York went from a historic start and dominating the AL East standings to having such a horrible summer to the point where the team was bottom three in wins from the months of late June to early August. An utter collapse in the heat saw New York lose the division to Toronto, and get embarrassed by them in the ALDS, once again allowing a team not named the Yankees to clinch a postseason accomplishment in the Bronx.
Giants O and D-Lines
The New York Giants would be your 2025 Super Bowl champions if games were decided in three quarters. Instead they are 2-10 with nearly a 100 point differential. The O-line has been horrific and can’t keep any of their QBs safe, Jaxson Dart is going into Week 3 of concussion protocol and has already been evaluated four times for a head injury. The D-line is great in quarters 1,2 and 3, but have them play in the fourth and you will see a line that could make a high school team look like the undefeated Patriots.
Saying that baseball cards from the 1980s and 90s are worth a lot of money
It is key to bring this up to any passionate collector over the carving of the turkey.
The Brooklyn Nets big three failed because of Harden
Brooklyn’s big three of James Harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving all played together from 2020 to 2022. Despite massive on-court talent, the group was plagued by injuries and off-court issues which had them fall short of a Finals appearance. Harden was traded to the 76ers, Irving requested a flight to Dallas and Durant was sent to the West Coast. The three stars only played in a total of 16 games together due to injuries. James Harden said that his time with Brooklyn was frustrating and that he wasn’t surprised that the big three never worked out. Harden was never a team player in Brooklyn and was the first to give up on the team.
Ilya Sorokin is no longer elite
Ilya Sorokin dominated the NHL in his first three seasons as the Russian Netminder combined for a .924 save percentage in 136 games for 70 wins with an impressive 16 donuts. In the following three seasons, which is made up of 2025/26, Sorokin has played in 132 games for a .907sv% and 8 shutouts. Although the 2025/26 season began several weeks ago, Sorokin is on pace for a career-worst season in save percentage, wins and quality starts.
