Yankees' No.1 Prospect Struggling Heavily In Double-AA

Jasson Dominguez has had a lot of 0-for performances this season, the switch-hitter sports a .204 batting average through 280 at-bats with double-AA Somerset.

Being 20-years-old and ranked as the No.1 prospect for one of the most prestigious baseball organizations in the world definitely comes with a lot of weight. So far in his rookie season in AA-ball has not added up to the biggest production rate, despite him being a top three familiar face on the Patriots’ lineup card.

Splits of .204/.345/.346 is partly from 98 strikeouts in 76 games. When Dominguez does get on base he is dangerous, having a 24-4 SB-CS ratio. The biggest factor though is that he is a switch hitter and can’t hit .250 from either side of the place. What Dominguez puts up defensively does help but it won’t even out a Mendoza Line average.

Overall though Dominguez has been hot to start the month of July, posting a .281 average with a .691 OPS in 8 games. This comes after a .186 hitting June campaign.

Nevertheless it seems that Dominguez would benefit from either being moved down the order or sent back down to single-A. He’s only 20-years-old and there is a lot of time for development, because right now batting third in double-AA, while barely hitting above his weight is not helping him.
