Aroldis Chapman’s Yankees’ Career Is Over

Updated: May 19, 2023

New York Yankees Closing Pitcher Aroldis Chapman said he would attend their mandatory workout if he definitely was going to be on their postseason roster. With that the Yankees organization could not give him that assurance that he would be playing ALDS baseball. With a no-guarantee that he will be on the playoff roster, Chapman would end up staying home in Miami, missing the bullpen session.

New York Yankees Manager, Aaron Boone, said that Chapman will not be on the ALDS roster and that the team looks to take a bigger disciplinary action on him.

Aroldis Champman posted a 4.46 ERA through 36.1 innings on the mound. The Cuban flamethrower pitcher missed a majority of the season as he was on the IL multiple times this season, one of the stints being for an infected tattoo he got mid-season. Overall Chapman has an ERA of 3.79 in 104-games/92.2 IP since the beginning of the 2021 season, a timeframe of which he has struggled heavily.

Yankees GM, Brian Cashman, said, “When you add everything up, it’s not surprising,” he said. “There’s some questions about whether he’s been all in or not for a little while. He’s maintained verbally that he’s in, but his actions don’t match those words.” It is safe to say that Aroldis Chapman's career in the Bronx is most likely over.
