Just days after moving up to the NCAA Division I level, the University of New Haven Chargers announced one of their biggest roster changes.

New Haven is parting ways with head coach Chris Pincince, with no reason for the change being said by the athletics department.

This comes after Pincince brought New Haven back-to-back NE10 championships and multiple playoff appearances.

Pincince has been at New Haven’s helm as HC since 2014, gathering a 76-34 record over that decade span that features the Chargers making the NCAA Division II playoffs five times since 2018.

Replacing the big shoes that Pincince has left behind is Mark Powell, who had been the defensive coordinator, is now being listed as both DC and HC on New Haven’s website.

Even though New Haven is DI, their football program is not, but will be joining at a later date. The non-synchronization is due to the time it would take to reschedule games. In college football, teams make their schedule about a year in advance.

Due to the letting go of Pincince and the scheduling uncertainty, multiple New Haven Chargers have hit the transfer portal, including star QB and projected 2025 starter Parker McQuarrie.

McQuarrie, a UCLA transfer, cited he is entering the transfer portal due to “scheduling uncertainty.” Multiple other Charger players have also hit the portal in the last 48 hours with similar sayings about the program.
