UNH Charges Ahead To Home Opener Win Against Rivals SCSU

Updated: Aug 4, 2023

The UNH Chargers took on rivals, the SCSU Owls for week two of NCAA Football in a sold out Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. Both teams entered 0-1 in the win-loss column for the early Saturday afternoon game. This was the first home game for UNH, last year the went 6-1 in home games.

Saturday’s match was a true offensive onslaught as both teams were in double digits after Q1, SCSU led by a field goal, 13-10. The Chargers would charge ahead in the second quarter via a 22 yard pass from QB1 Connor Degenhardt to Chris Carlyle for a touchdown. UNH led going into halftime 17-13. Q3 was all about defense as both teams were shutout in that quarter. Going into the fourth quarter UNH still had their 17-13 lead where they would extend it to a two score game off of a 24 yard pass over to Kevin Foelsch, making the score 24-13 in UNH’s favor. The Owls would strike under three minutes in Q4 via a rushing play of a single yard for the touchdown by Diante Wilson, making the score 24-19. UNH would be quick to respond though after a power 37 yard run from Christopher Ais to seal the game with a 1:43 left. SCSU would score once again via a one yard rushing play to make the score 31-26, but with just 0:39 on the clock the Owls were out of time.

That win moves the Chargers to .500% at 1-1 as the Owls go 0-2, the win also makes it 13 straight for the Chargers against the Owls team. This is a rare season though where UNH will see SCSU twice, the two teams meet again on November 12th at SCSU.
