Connecticut isn’t really known as a football state, especially for high school football. Despite that there are still six different high school football divisions that carry over 100 different programs.
There are a total of 210 football players who have hailed from the ‘Constitution State’ with most playing in the pros from the 1920s to 1950s. 2022 featured just seven players in the NFL representing Connecticut, with just one being a quarterback. Now there will be at least two QBs who are from Connecticut: Tim Boyle and Will Levis.
Will Levis was drafted by the Tennessee Titans as the second pick of the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Many expected the Kentucky QB1 to go in the first round, instead he was left sitting in an empty green room stunned by his draft stock falling. All occuring while TV cameras were surrounding him.
Levis played high school ball at Xavier, where he would go 14-12 as a starter. He particularly had trouble performing against West Haven teams, having a 1-4 combined record against the West Haven Blue Devils and the Notre Dame-West Haven Green Knights.
The Blue Devils would dominate in all of their three games against Levis, holding him to a combined 38/74 passing (.513%) for 489 yards, throwing 5 touchdowns to 2 interceptions. West Haven won all three games against Levis’ Falcons, outsourcing them, 107-52.
October 10th, 2017, featured the best game for Westies football when they put up 45 points and held Xavier’s offense to just a touchdown. The Blue Devils D-line held the future DI QB1 to just 71 yards (5/13, .385%) and forced two turnovers.
Notre Dame-West Haven faced Levis just twice and would split the wins and losses, 1-1. The private school got their sole win against Xavier with Levis under center on October 11th, 2016, by way of a 20-0 shutout win. The Green Knights defense allowed 106 passing yards off of just 10 completions (10/23, .435%).
