The Bridgeport Islanders haven’t played a game in Bridgeport since April 21st. The AHL season has been ongoing, and the Islanders franchise has been playing – just not in Bridgeport. After the 2025/26 AHL season ended with a sweep against the Hershey Bears in the Calder Cup playoffs, the Bridgeport Islanders would relocate and rebrand.

Bridgeport Islanders hockey shifted up north across the border, becoming the Hamilton Hammers, of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

The Hamilton Hammers currently hold a 1-3-0-1 record. Despite playing 5 games under the Hammers name, you would never be able to guess that the Bridgeport Islanders ever left Bridgeport, Connecticut – at least as of the making of this article on Oct. 23rd, 2026.

Like a grey ghost from hockey’s past, Total Mortgage Arena, the home of the Bridgeport Islanders, still showcases all remnants outside from its AHL past.

An X (Twitter) post from October 16th, shows that Bridgeport Islanders branding is still very clear and present outside of the arena, which could be seen from I-95. A banner with both the AHL and NHL Islanders’ logos looks very much alive, greeting the interstate drivers who happen to travel by with “Home of the Bridgeport Islanders” wording. Along with the banner is a massive AHL Fisherman Islanders logo from the team’s rebrand from the Sound Tigers to Islanders.

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers / Islanders lasted a quarter century in Connecticut, from 2001-2026. Now, the Hamilton Hammers reside some 483-miles away in Canada.
