Sabres Get First Win, But The Worrying Shouldn't End Just Yet

Buffalo has once again dug themselves a hole early in the season. A 1-3-0 start puts the Sabres with just 2 points and last place in the Atlantic Division.
A total of 6 points back from Montreal, the Sabres won on Wednesday against the Senators to get their first points in the standings. Despite Buffalo taking down Ottawa, a team ahead of them in the division, doesn’t quite mean that things will trend upward. Even with the fact Buffalo had an offensive explosion with 8 goals.
Yes an 0-3-0 start is miserable, and getting that first win off everyone’s backs is already a good stress reliever. It is worthy to note though that the Sabres did not take up a strenuous Senator team. Ottawa has some of the worst defenses in the entire league to begin the season and them being outscored 18-7 in their three losses proves that statement.
Judging by last season, you will need roughly 40-to-44 wins to just make a wild card berth. Buffalo already started the season in a pit and has already allowed 14 games in what has been a struggling season in their own ways defensively. So understandably, you can tell how the road ahead is a tough one.
Nonetheless the Sabres surprised everyone in 2022/23, being in contention in the final days of the regular season. Since then, Buffalo is still yet to produce a 40+ win season, with the team winning three games less per season since. It is still very early in the season and anything could happen, hopefully for the upstate New York team, this first win can start a positive streak.
