The New York Yankees acquired Josh Donaldson during the 2021 MLB offseason. The trade involved New York sending C Gary Sanchez and IF Gio Urshela to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for 3B Josh Donaldson, IF Isiah Kiner-Falefa and C Ben Rortvedt.
Donaldson came to New York under a contract through 2023 (total deal of 4yr/$92M) that he signed with the Twins, leading the Yankees to take on the contract.
2022 was Donaldson’s first season in pinstripes and it wouldn't of gone any worse: He batted below .230, was suspended for an on-field incident, thought he hit multiple home runs only to be called out at first base or only end up with a single along with ranking in the bottom half for third basemen fWAR.
Donaldson is now on the Yankees’ trading block, with that his time in the Bronx may be over before 2023 spring training.
