Path To Pinstripes: The Somerset Patriots Throw A No-Hitter

Updated: May 17, 2023

The Somerset Patriots went up against the Bowie Baysox, the double-AA affiliate for the Baltimore Orioles yesterday with Luis Severino on the mound starting for Somerset. Severino was making his second start of his rehab stint as he is expected to be back up in the majors within the next 30-days. The Somerset Patriots is the double-AA affiliate for the New York Yankees and they are one of the best in their division with a 50-32 record coming into the game.

Luis Severino started things off by going four perfect innings of baseball. In just 48 pitches Severino got five strikeouts and did not allow a single base runner. Coming in after Sevy was Shawn Semple, the New York Yankees 11th round draft pick from 2017, he led the team for another four perfect innings and also got five K's to his name. Coming in to finish things off in the ninth inning was Ron Marinaccio, who was also drafted by the pinstripes in 2017 as the 572nd overall pick. Overall Marinaccio has had a very impressive career so far as through 70-games and 121.2 innings, he has an ERA below 3.50 mark along with 173 strikeouts. Marinaccio came in to close things off and he did, overall though he gave up one walk, turning the perfect game into a no-hitter as he got the final three outs and did not allow an earned run, lowering his ERA to 1.82 on the season.

With that said The Somerset Patriots have thrown a no-hitter in a 7-0 blowout against the Bowie Baysox on August 8th, 2021. This is the first no-hitter of the Patriots organization and overall the 4th no hitter by the entire Yankees organization in this 2021 season as the Yankees high-A, double-AA, triple-AAA and major league teams have thrown at least one no-hitter!

With this win the Patriots are now 51-32 on the season, pure domination.
