NYCFC Has Finally Fallen Off Since 2021 Championship win

From an MLS Cup win in 2021 and a 16-7-11 record in 2022, NYCFC has fallen off earth in 2023. Currently New York stands 5-11-8, which is 23rd in the 1st Tier.

Gabriel Pereira is the team’s leading goal scorer after 22 games, he has 6 goals on the season. Richard Ledezma is leading assists with 5 on the season. A losing team won’t look good in the stat column, and for NYCFC it is ugly.

Starting goalie Luis Barraza has started in 22 games and only has a 1.18 GAA, he has been solid this season. A higher save percentage than 68.7% would help the club, but he is about league average. New York’s biggest downfall has been offense or lack of.

2023 is a wash for the club. With only 10 games remaining, NYCFC would have to win all 10 straight to even come close to last season’s record. Their longest winning streak is two games, which was lastly done between April 15th and the 22nd.
