New York Yankees Fall To Last In ALE After 15-2 Loss

Updated: May 19, 2023

Today is May 1st, 2023, and the New York Yankees are last in the AL East. It all seems like some weird fever dream, New York was loaded going into the regular season and now you have guys such as Franchy Cordero and Willie Calhoun getting regular at-bats.

The last place standing to start off May marks the first time the Yankees are in last at the end of April since 2016.

A 15-2 blowout loss makes New York techentally tied with the Boston Red Sox for fourth in the ALE due to the W-L record being the same at 15-14. Boston holds that tie-breaker standing as they are on a two game winning streak and the Yankees have lost three straight.

New York didn’t win more than two straight games all month. They are 9-14 with a -19 run differential when Gerrit Cole doesn’t start. It is bad right now in the Bronx and with Judge and Stanton missing time, well it seems like the light is far away.

Meanwhile Tampa Bay is 23-5 and holds a 8.5 game lead over New York, who will face them for two series for six total games in a span of about a week-and-a-half.
