Congratulations to the New York Rangers for finally scoring a home goal. Unfortunately, they were only able to score one when the team needed at least four.
Artemi Panarin was the one who ended the home scoring drought at the most famous arena in the world. The goal came after 180:57 of shutout hockey through three home games. Panarin’s goal came just 57 seconds into the first period.
The Rangers became the first team in NHL history to put up donuts in their first-three home games of the season.
A 3-4-1 start to the season has the Rangers with 7 points, sitting at the bottom of the Metropolitan after a 3-1 loss to the Wild. It has certainly been a wild start to the season for New York, which has seen numerous low scoring affairs already.
New York has a +1 goal differential, which is very good considering the team has been shutout in three of their first eight games. Shesterkin has been great out of the gate with his league-leading .957 save percentage, allowing just over a goal-per-game on average. Line management has been solid, but due to the Rangers inconsistent start you have the +/- numbers looking a bit funky.
Vladislav Gavrikov is +3 with just a 1 point contribution, as Mika Zibanejad is -3 despite accounting for 4 points this season.
The majority of New York’s goals have come in the third with 9, off of 78 shots. Meanwhile, at MSG the Rangers are outscored 9-1 after last night’s drop to the Wild.
