Jets May Cut Fan Favorite Receiver To Loosen Up Space In Crowded WR Room

The NFL is a league of constant turnover and the New York Jets have been far from an inception. The Jets have gone through many different options in every department in hopes of turning the team around and ending the decade-and-a-half playoff drought.
Even though training camp hasn’t started yet for Gang Green, the team may already be sending one player out of 1 Jets Drive.
The Jets wide receiver department is not the strongest on the team nor in the league. One way to clear some space may involve ending their relationship with once fan favorite Xavier Gipson. The undrafted free agent landed with the Jets in 2023, but was limited his rookie season to 21 receptions for 229 yards.
Gipson was almost fully removed from the Jets’ wide receiver room last season, with only eight targets as he primarily took the role of return man on special teams. In what is going to be a very crowded Jets WR room in 2025, the final two or three spots will be a ‘free-for-all’ contest in training camp and the preseason games. NFL teams generally carry five-to-six receivers throughout the regular season.
