West Haven’s Gianni Gambardella (Class of 2022) is throwing his name into the 2025 MLB Draft.

The right-hander has spent the last three years with Division I Maine, where he saw Freshman All-American honors in 2023. His junior year with UMaine saw Gambardella fan a career-high 51 batters in what was also a career-high 62.2 innings.

Overall in 39 games consisting of 22 starts, Gambardella has a 4.79 ERA and a 1.392 WHIP in 171 innings, which features three saves and even a complete game on his stat line.

Gambardella uses both the called third strike along with soft contact to acquire his outs. 7.3 career K/9 and allowing less than a home run per nine innings has made him a top three pitcher for the Black Bears over the past three years.

2025 saw the West Haven native rank 3rd in K/9 (7.3), 2nd in WHIP (1.436) and 2nd in ERA (4.88) amongst Maine qualified pitchers with 60+ innings pitched.

Gambardella currently is playing collegiate summer baseball in the Cape Cod League, where he has posted a 1.50 ERA in 6 innings across two games for the Harwich Mariners so far.

The former Blue Devils two-way player told Dominic Konareski of the CT Sideline Sports that he is “hoping to get picked up” in the upcoming draft.

The 2025 Major League Baseball Draft will take place from July 13th-14th and will feature a total of 615 selections across 20 rounds.

Gambardella is expected to be a mid-to-late round pick if selected this year. Teams tend to take college juniors in those rounds who show occasional flashes with serviceable track records.
