Devin Williams will likely be a one-and-done Yankee as he is set for free agency after the 2025 season.

Williams, who came in as a prized offseason acquisition by Cashman, is now one of the most hated players to sport pinstripes. A 5.60 ERA going into the home stretch of the season has only seen the right-hander post a monthly ERA under 3.90 just once, which occurred during June with a 0.93 ERA in 9.2 innings.

Surprisingly, Williams only has four blown saves on the season in what is a 3-6, -0.8 WAR campaign. The fallout in the eighth inning Wednesday night against the Astros has raised the question as to how many games has Devin Williams cost the Yankees?

Overall, Williams has 18 saves on the season for New York, but when you factor in blown saves that led to losses later on or credited losses to him you get quite a big number in terms of player counter-production.

As of September 5th, 2025, Devin Williams’ six losses in the win-loss column have only seen him pitch 3.2 innings with a 4.364 WHIP and a 31.91 ERA. Five-out-of-six losses were in non-save situations. Two of Williams’ four blown saves have resulted in eventual losses, which were on 4/25 vs the Blue Jays and 8/4 vs the Texas Rangers.

Williams is overall responsible for eight New York Yankees losses this season, which is fitting to his -0.8 WAR that currently stands as the highest on the Yankees this season between position players and pitchers.
