Giants Keeping Russell Wilson As Week 2 Starter Should Be No Surprise

The Giants yet again lost a Week 1 affair and were once again allergic to being in the end zone as they begin their season 0-1.

Facing another NFC East opponent in the Dallas Cowboys on September 14th, New York will be going into the affair as an underdog. A disappointing debut by Russell Wilson saw him go 17-for-37 passing with less than 170 yards, but Big Blue rolling with Russell Wilson into Week 2 should not be a shocker.

Although Wilson had a less than memorable Giants debut, the fact is New York should not be looking at QB2 Jaxson Dart or QB3 Jameis Winston.

Dart is the face of the Giants franchise, but him being cemented into the starter slot should be based on when he’s ready – not what the win-loss record is. Winston would be QB2 on any other team if it wasn’t for Dart and you can even make the case of him being a starter for a QB needy team. I do believe we will see Winston become the Giants QB1 before Dart if Wilson continues to struggle.

Giant fans need to remember though that this is really a stop-gap year for the team and a prove-it year for Russell Wilson who is in a stop-gap year of his own. More than likely New York won’t win their division, but if all goes well and they win key games then it is very likely Big Blue will make a return to playoff football as a wild card team.
