The last time Deivi Garcia made a regular season appearance in the majors was in 2021 where he only pitched 8.1 innings.
In a way he is a forgotten Yankee and that is due to him being either on the IL or playing in the minors.
It's looking like Garcia may get another chance at playing in pinstripes. The 23-year-old was in the Yankees’ locker room this morning and also is on the lineup card for New York.
Garcia coming back up to the Bronx is the corresponding move that the Yankees’ front office is making after optioning Greg Weissert to triple-AAA.
The righty has appeared in eight major league games, all of which he started between 2021- 2022. In 42.2 innings pitched the Dominican Republic native has posted a 5.27 ERA.
New York has used Garcia mainly as a relief pitcher so far this season in triple-AAA. In 10 games and 20 innings, he has posted a 4.50 ERA with18 strikeouts.
Garcia was a lot of fun to watch pitch during the COVID year and if he can bring that fun play along with a solid consistent production then the Yankees could have a multi-use pitcher who could start or relieve.
