Sunday saw the Islanders miss-out on making the playoffs and clinch a playoff berth.
The New York Islanders were eliminated from making a playoff run for the Stanley Cup as their AHL counterpart Bridgeport Islanders clinched a playoff berth in what was the team’s final regular season home game in Connecticut ever.
With that, the Bridgeport Islanders will play at least one more home game in Connecticut before packing up and going to Canada.
Sunday marked the final home game at Total Mortgage Arena for the Bridgeport Islanders before the team sets its eyes and relocates to Hamilton, Ontario.
The Islanders clinched their berth into the AHL Calder Cup playoffs for the first time since 2022 and for the 11th time overall in their franchise history. A 4-1 win against the cross-state Hartford Wolfpack clinched the playoff berth, giving Bridgeport at least one more home game before saying goodbye.
Sunday’s game against Hartford marked the final regular season home game in Bridgeport Islanders history as fans came out to celebrate the win and 25 years of Islanders hockey in Connecticut.
Making the playoffs was a climb. The Islanders came into the season after back-to-back years finishing 32nd in the AHL, with a historically bad 2024/25 campaign. Bridgeport will head into the playoffs as the No.4 seed if they hold on to it in these remaining regular season away contests. If so, the 4th seed ranking will be the highest that Bridgeport has seen since the 2018/19 season.
The Islanders will end their season with three consecutive away games. If the seeds hold, then Bridgeport will play No.5 Hershey in a best-of-three series.
