Adam Sandler's Stat Line As Paul Crewe From The Longest Yard

One of the first articles on our New York Sports Show magazine was Billy Chapel’s career stat line from the movie For Love of the Game. Kevin Costner played Chapel’s character beautifully as that was just one of many roles that Costner has played in nearly every major and fan loved baseball movie in existence.

When it comes to football and a singular actor playing multiple characters throughout multiple movies, you have Adam Sandler. Sandler has appeared in multiple sport movies that were both serious like his sports drama film Hustle and that were comically based like Happy Gilmore, which featured Sandler as a failed hockey player-turned pro golfer.

One film that Sandler was in that truly stands out is the 2005 remake of The Longest Yard, a sports comedy remake of the 1974’s film of the same name. Sandler plays ex-NFL quarterback Paul Crewe, who leads a team of prison inmates in a football game against the same people that guard them.

Although the movie is entirely fictional, it is always nice to dive into some game stats. While the film doesn’t officially show a full box score, you can still base a reasonably accurate stat line compiled from analysis of the movie game footage and dialogue.

Paul Crewe’s (Adam Sandler) projected stat line puts him 21-for-28 passing, with 248 yards and a 2-1 TD-INT ratio. Crewe also had 5 rushing attempts for 32 yards and had one fumble.

Considering Sandler’s character was an ex-NFL quarterback who has been out of the league for more than a half-decade, this projected stat line is realistic in my opinion for what would be a semi-pro game with age range and rating factors.
